Grihapravesham

The grihapravesham is performed in the new house so that it will be purified, and lord Vishnu can reside at that place and stay there to make it protected and blessed. This is done also to scare away the negative entities and burn the bad karma associated with the place. Grihapravesham for the new house should be performed on an auspicious day and in auspicious time (muhurat) as specified in the astronomical charts (panchang).
